December 2006 - Pryde Schropp McComb, Inc. awarded a Runway Extension Feasibility Study for Runway 11-29 at St. John’s International Airport, NL. The study will include detailed preliminary engineering and planning to asses how to optimize the extension of the runway off both ends or one end of the existing runway. The work involves a number sub-studies including: ATC Sight-line Analysis, ASDE Coverage Analysis, Cut and Fill Optimization, Obstacle Limitation Surface Analysis and Impacts on Airport Zoning Regulations, RESA Considerations, CAT II Lighting Impacts including Upgrading to ALSF-2 and Air Service Improvements related to increased runway length.
November 2006 - Pryde Schropp McComb, Inc. Canada in association with Gulf Engineering Consultant of the Sultanate of Oman have been awarded an Airport Design and Construction Supervision Consultancy contract for the construction of the Ras Al Hadd Greenfield Airport Development in the Sultanate of Oman. The US$150 million airport development will meet ICAO Code F design requirements and include a single 4000m CAT I runway and associated taxiway and apron systems. The building program will include a new Air Terminal, Combined Services Building and an Air Traffic Control Tower. The project is schedule for design in 2007-2008 with construction beginning mid 2008 and an opening targeted for Q4 2010. The airport is part of the tourism master plan which includes the development of a number of eco-tourism resorts along the beautiful Gulf coastal region. Mr. Bernhard Schropp, P.Eng., Vice President, will lead the consulting team having over 10 years of experience working in the Sultanate and the Ministry of Transport & Communications, Directorate General Civil Aviation & Meteorology (DGCAM).
October 2, 2006 - At the fall annual convention of AMCO, the recently completed Ontario Airports Study was presented to AMCO delegates and other Provincial/Federal Agencies involved in the province wide study of municipal airports in Ontario. A total of 85 airports were reviewed and represented the majority of registered/certified airports servicing municipalities throughout Ontario. Pryde Schropp McComb Inc. (PSMI), in association with Sypher completed the comprehensive report. PSMI was responsible for infrastructure assessment and estimation of capital funding requirements for municipal airports. This study concluded that non-ACAP municipal airports on an annual basis require $5,500,000 in capital improvements to maintain their existing infrastructure. This study will hopefully assist municipalities and provincial and federal governments to assess funding opportunities for municipal airports.
September 2006 - Pryde Schropp McComb, Inc. (PSMI) in association with CBCL Ltd. are providing airport and structural engineering services for the design of an 2.4m high fibre glass blast fence for FAA approval and installation at Chicago Midway Intl. The blast fence technology developed by Blastwall Ltd. uses fibre glass material and components to prevent interference with electronic navigational and communication equipment at airports while providing a structural barrier to protect against aircraft jet blast.
September 2006 - Prince George Airport Authority selects the Consultant Team lead by Pryde Schropp McComb, Inc. (PSMI) to update their Airport Master Plan. PSMI, in association with SCOTT Associates Architects and L & M Engineering Limited of Prince George, will complete the study using traditional airport master planning techniques supplemented with an innovative and interactive web based information system for analysis and presentation. The final report is scheduled for completion in Q1 2007.
August 2006 - Alberta Sustainable Resource Development has chosen Pryde Schropp McComb Inc. to provide design and resident services for the proposed upgrades to their tanker base located at the Edson and Grande Prairie Airports.
August 2006 - The International Airport Division of Pryde Schropp McComb, Inc. (PSMI) was awarded a noise and emissions modeling project for a proposed airport in the Sultanate of Oman. The work will involve predicting aircraft noise and emissions impacts for a greenfield airport development in the southern region of the Sultanate using the FAA Integrated Noise Model and EDMS software. The work will form part of an Environmental Impact Study (EIS) being completed by the firm Five Oceans LLC on behalf of the Directorate General Civil Aviation & Meteorology and Parsons Oman LLC. The study is expected to be completed in Q4 of 2006.
July 2006 - The International Airport Division of Pryde Schropp McComb, Inc. (PSMI) was commissioned by the government of the Sultanate of Oman, Directorate General Civil Aviation & Meteorology to complete a conceptual development study for a new ICAO Code 4F compliant airport to serve the central interior of the Sultanate. The scope of services involved the physical review of a preferred development site along with conducting a detailed runway siting analysis including a review of temperature and wind conditions for the region. The fast-track project included various high level presentations to staff of the Directorate and the Minster of Transportation, Oman. The study confirmed the feasibility of the airport development and will provide a basis for the next phase of the project which will see it designed and constructed as a design-build project PSMI along with its Omani partner, Gulf Engineering Consultancy, will continue to manage the design-build process and provide resident services throughout the next 14 month design and construction phase.
June 2006 - Regina Airport Authority (RAA) selects Pryde Schropp McComb, Inc.’s (PSMI) ALFA Airport Billing Solution Software as part of a major upgrade to their airport billing system at the Regina International Airport (RIA). Having recently completed a comprehensive airport fee review, RAA will use the ALFA software to automate their aeronautical billing and will also take advantage of the ALFA recurring billing functions to manage their leases, concessions and various licensing fees. The ALFA Airport Billing Solution Software is used at over 30 airports across Canada and internationally to automate many billing functions unique to the airport environment.
May 2006 - Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) awards contract to Pryde Schropp McComb, Inc. (PSMI) for airside design and non-resident services for the rehabilitation of Runway 06L-24R at Toronto Pearson International Airport. Runway 06L-24R is one of the busiest runways at Toronto and is scheduled for pavement and lighting system improvements in 2007 and 2008 The $12 million project will involve pavement improvements and replacement of all associated airport ground lighting systems including edge lighting, centerline lighting, touch down zone lighting and airfield signage. The final design is estimated to be completed in Q4 2006 with tendering and construction in 2007 and 2008.
March 2006 - Fort McMurray Airport – PSMI has been hired to complete two major projects at the Fort McMurray Airport. The scope of the two projects includes expanding the Airport’s main apron and extension of Runway 07-25. The $2.6 million Apron expansion project will expand the existing apron approximately 5,000 m2 and is being partly funded the Transport Canada ACAP program. The $6.5 million Runway 07-25 Extension project involves a 452m (1,500ft.) extension of the Airport’s current runway. PSMI completed all facets of the planning and design for both projects and is overseeing and managing the construction stage. Both projects are being completed to increase the safety and efficiency of the Fort McMurray Airport and to allow the airport access to possible long haul service from other markets in North America. The increase of activity at the airport is primarily fuelled by the multi billion dollar oil sands industry that is located in the Fort McMurray region.
March 27, 2006 - Transport Canada announced the allocation of funding for the 2006 / 2007 fiscal year for the Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP). Of the 36 projects announced for ACAP funding, Pryde Schropp McComb Inc. are involved in 13 of the projects, totaling approximately $12 million in approved funding. This represents 43% of the ACAP funding announced for this upcoming fiscal year for all of Canada. Since the announcement of the ACAP program in 1995, Pryde Schropp McComb Inc. has been involved in obtaining approval of over 200 projects with a value in excess of $175 million. March 21, 2006 - Vernon Regional Airport – PSMI is completing a project at the Vernon Regional Airport that involves extension of the existing Runway 05-23. The project is being phased into two separate parts to allow the relocation of an existing watercourse that currently runs across the Runway 05 approach. The first phase of the project, which PSMI has been retained for, involves design and construction of a portion of runway extension alongside other expansion and rehabilitation projects on various pavement facilities.
